A brand built on a rounding error.
One percent is nothing on a Tuesday. Held for a year, it is everything.
The story
It started with a bad seam.
In 2023 our founder ran the Two Oceans half in a pair of imported tights that cost more than the entry fee and rubbed a hole in her hip by kilometre fourteen. The brand’s response was a voucher. It was not a fabric problem — it was a decision problem. Someone had moved a seam eight millimetres to save on cutting waste, and nobody downstream had been allowed to say no.
OnePercent exists to be allowed to say no. We make a small number of pieces, we make them slowly, and we change one thing at a time until there is nothing left to fix. It is not a romantic way to build a clothing brand. It is just the way that works.
The mark on every piece is the word ONE with the N reversed — a deliberate imperfection. The point is not to be flawless. The point is to be better than yesterday, visibly, on the record.
How we got here
Four years, small steps.
2023
The hole in the hip
A failed race, a refused refund, and a pattern block bought second-hand off a retired Woodstock cutter.
2024
Forty testers
The Cadence legging went through nine samples before it went on sale. Two hundred pairs sold out in a weekend from an Instagram post.
2025
Cut and sewn locally
Production moved to partner factories in Cape Town and Durban. Lead times halved, and we could finally stand in the room where our clothes are made.
2026
Four stockists, one run club
Stocked across the Cape, with a Thursday run club that has outgrown three meeting points.
Materials
Fewer fabrics,
known by name.
We use six base fabrics across the whole range. Six, not sixty. It means we know exactly how each one behaves after fifty washes, which mill run it came from, and what it costs to the cent.
